How We Work

We provide individual therapy to adults, couples counseling, and group therapy, and work with people from a wide range of backgrounds with varying needs and goals. Although each of our therapists practice independently and maintain their own unique styles, we are united by a commitment to provide a caring, anti-oppressive, non-judgmental and accepting environment where you’ll feel safe to do the remarkable, brave and sometimes difficult work of psychotherapy.

Our work emphasizes the role that unconscious processes may play in underlying our experiences and suffering.  By "unconscious processes," we mean those aspects of our personality of which we're unaware.  We often repeat the same actions over and over again due to the influence of factors that lie outside our awareness.  Understanding "what lies beneath" is essential in helping us understand why we may repeat the same actions over and over again, and how to ultimately make changes that last.  The kind of changes that often occur from this approach to therapy include not only relief from various “symptoms” but the growth of inner resources and capacities that help create a life that feels more meaningful.

We also believe the best clinicians in this field are those who engage in continuous growth through training, personal therapy, and regular consultation with peers and supervisors.  This offers therapists essential input from beyond the therapist's particular vantage point.  These values are hallmarks of our practice, not only because they are personally meaningful to us, but because they are what most benefit our clients.
